Ambre Chalumeau is a French journalist, born in 1997.[1]

Since 2020, she has been presenting cultural segments on the TV show Quotidien.[2]

Biography

[edit]

Ambre Chalumeau was born in 1997. She is the daughter of Laurent Chalumeau, a French journalist and writer, and Arielle Saracco, former head of original programming at Canal+.[3]

After attending a literary preparatory class,[4] she pursued journalism studies at the École des hautes études en sciences de l'information et de la communication (Celsa), where she earned a Master's degree in Media and Management.[5]

She then joined Radio Nova, worked on Daphné Roulier's show Rayon cult' on Paris Première, and contributed to Rolling Stone and Society magazines. It was during this time that she met Marc Beaugé, editor-in-chief of Society and fashion columnist on Quotidien, a television show hosted by Yann Barthès on TMC. This connection allowed her to join the fifth season of the show in 2020, where she began hosting the cultural segment La Brigade des Affaires Culturelles, later renamed La Brigade.

On February 24, 2023, she presented her first documentary on TMC, Une soirée avec Astérix et Obélix, coinciding with the release of Astérix & Obélix: The Middle Kingdom, directed by Guillaume Canet.

On June 21, 2023, she presented a second documentary titled Le système Tom Cruise, dedicated to the career of the American actor.[6]

In July 2023, she was voted "Columnist of the Year" during the 2023 TV Notes awards, organized by the website PureMédias and RTL.

In addition to her television work, Ambre Chalumeau runs an Instagram account called "Des tableaux partout" where she posts montages connecting photographs, paintings, or works from pop culture.[7]

Public Statements

[edit]

In 2023, Ambre Chalumeau was involved in two controversies online.[8]

The first occurred following the January 5 episode of Quotidien, where she discussed "nepo-babies" (children of famous parents) in the fashion and film industries in the United States. Some online users criticized her for not mentioning that she herself is the daughter of well-known parents. In an interview, she responded:

“Many people think I got the job on TMC because of my parents. But not at all. When I told them I was going to be on TV, their first reaction was concern: they know the industry and were worried about the public exposure. They let me figure things out on my own, and today, I think they are proud and happy with what I'm experiencing."

The second controversy arose following a February 9 segment where, with Rachida Dati present on set—known for her verbal clashes with Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo—Chalumeau discussed how the media portrays rivalries between female public figures. She gave several notable examples, but later faced accusations of plagiarism by Racha Belmehdi, the author of a book on the same topic.[9] Belmehdi claimed that Chalumeau had used examples from her book without crediting it on the show.[10] After a few articles covered the accusations, Chalumeau publicly addressed the matter on air, stating that she had not read the book in question, as the rivalries she mentioned were well-known. This explanation sparked a media frenzy, with around thirty articles covering the controversy and discussions unfolding on social media.[11][12] Some journalists noted the irony, as the media's over-coverage of the incident itself illustrated the very topic of female conflicts being amplified in the public eye.[13]
