Darino (Russian: Дарьино) is a village in western Russia, in Sudzhansky District of Kursk Oblast.
Geography
[edit]The village is located in the southwestern part of the Central Russian Upland, in the forest steppe zone, on the right bank of the Snagosti River, 3.55 kilometres (2.21 mi) of the Russian-Ukrainian border, 97.25 kilometres (60.43 mi) southwest of Kursk, about 17 kilometres (11 mi) northwest of the town of Sudzha, the administrative centre of the district.[4] The absolute height is 167 metres above sea level.
History

[edit]The settlement came under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as part of the August 2024 Kursk Oblast incursion of the Russian invasion of Ukraine,[5] and was regained by Russian Forces in September, the same year.[6][7][8]

A Russian insider source claimed that Ukrainian forces have seized 45 square kilometers of territory within Kursk Oblast since they launched the operation on August 6, and other Russian sources reported that Ukrainian forces have captured 11 total settlements, including Nikolaevo-Daryino (1.5 kilometers north of the Sumy Oblast border), Darino (three kilometers north of the Sumy Oblast border), and Sverdlikovo (east of the Nikolaevo-Darino-Darino area), and are operating within Lyubimovka (eight kilometers north of the Sumy Oblast border).

Russian milbloggers claimed that Russian forces advanced in fields north and east of Darino and in fields southeast of Nikolayevo-Darino (both southeast of Korenevo), which are both on the southwestern edge of the Kursk Oblast salient and which Russian sources claimed that Russian forces seized on September 19. ISW has not yet observed confirmation of these claims, nor confirmation that Russian forces have seized Darino or Nikolayevo-Darino.

Russian sources, including the Russian MoD, claimed that Russian forces conducted assaults southeast of Korenevo near Lyubimovka, Darino, and Nikolayevo-Daryino and south of Sudzha near Plekhovo on September 25 and 26.
