Box Cricket League (BCL) is an Indian sports reality television show where celebrities compete against each other in an indoor cricket game format. It’s considered as India’s first sports reality show, where over 200 television stars participated, including both male and female TV actors.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

Establishment

The BCL was inspired by the popularity of the Celebrity Cricket League, a T10 tournament with franchises in major cities across India. The series is a unique collaboration of sports, celebrities and entertainment, conceptualised by Marinating Films.[9]

The inaugural season saw 8 teams competing against each other. For the second season, two additional teams were added.[10]

First season

The inaugural season took place in 2014, with 8 teams participating - Chandigarh Cubs, Delhi Dragons, Rowdy Bangalore, Mumbai Tigers, Kolkata Babu Moshay, Jaipur Raj Joshiley, Pune Anmol Ratna and Ahmedabad Express. Delhi Dragons emerged as the first champions of BCL. A total of 150, celebrities participated in the first season which was aired on Sony Entertainment Television.[11][1][8]

Second season

The second season took place in 2016. Two new cricket teams, Chennai Swaggers and Lucknow Nawabs were added to the BCL. Again in season 2, Delhi Dragons won for the second time in a row and became 2-time champions of BCL. Total 10 teams including 200 celebrities were part of the second season aired on Colors TV.[12][13][11][4][14][8]

Third season

The third season premiered on 25 February 2018. Lucknow Nawabs defeated two-time champions Delhi Dragons to become the winners of Season 3. The third season aired on MTV India and also available at ALTBalaji and JioCinema. RJ Sidhu was the commentator for BCL 3.[15][16][17][18][19][20]

Fourth season

The fourth season premiered on 29 April 2019. The fourth season also aired on MTV India and also available at JioCinema. RJ Sidhu was the commentator and Rakhi Sawant was the 4th umpire for BCL season 4.[21][22][23]

Box Cricket League - Punjab (BCL Punjab)

  • The BCL Punjab took place in 2015 with Punjab Television Actors. Most of Punjabi Actors from BCL were also a part of BCLP Teams.[24]

Box Cricket League - Marathi (BCL Marathi)

  • The BCL Marathi rolled three seasons in years 2014, 2015 and 2016. Players were from the Marathi Television Industry.[25]

Box Cricket League - Kannada (BCL Sandalwood)

  • The BCL Kannada known as BCL Sandalwood rolled two seasons in years 2015 and 2016. Players were from the Kannada Television Industry.[26][27]

Box Cricket League - Telugu (BCL Kollywood)

  • The BCL Telugu known as BCL Kollywood rolled out in the year 2017 with 8 teams with players from the Telugu Television Industry.[28]
