Eka Peksha Ek is a 1990 Indian Marathi language comedy-mystery film directed by Sachin Pilgaonkar and produced by Satish Kulkarni.[1] The film stars an ensemble cast of Sachin Pilgaonkar, Laxmikant Berde, Ashok Saraf, Archana Joglekar, Sukanya Kulkarni, Nishigandha Wad, Kuldeep Pawar and Ajit Vachani.[2][3] The plot focuses on two friends with disabilities who are arrested for a murder they did not commit.[4]
The film is adapted from Arthur Hiller's 1989 American comedy film See No Evil, Hear No Evil which was also the inspiration for Hindi movies Hum Hain Kamaal Ke and Pyare Mohan, Tamil movie Andipatti Arasampatti, and Kannada movies Akka Pakka and Baduku Jataka Bandi.[5] The film was ran over than 25 weeks in theatres.[6]
Plot
[edit]Bhanudas Mahimkar is a blind man who meets Kalyan Nashikkar, a deaf man, when he applies for a job at Kalyan's footwear shop. Kalyan refuses to hire him because of his blindness, and the two part ways. However, Kalyan can read lips and is planning to marry his girlfriend, Manda, who is Bhanudas’ younger sister. After some misunderstandings, the two men bond when they fight off some thugs together. Kalyan eventually apologizes and asks Bhanudas’ permission to marry Manda. Bhanudas agrees, and Kalyan hires him at the shop.
Meanwhile, a man named Vijay Kumar steals a government plan and hides the evidence—a piece of film—in his shoe. Vijay Kumar works for a criminal leader named Zunjaar but refuses to hand over the film because he wasn't paid enough. This angers Zunjaar, who sends his henchman, Pandhari, to get the film. Pandhari involves his partner, Sona, who tries to seduce Vijay Kumar to steal the film but fails.
One day, Bhanudas leaves his shoes at Kalyan's shop, and Vijay Kumar, being chased by Sona and Pandhari, switches his shoes with Bhanudas’. Pandhari kills Vijay Kumar in Kalyan's shop, but Kalyan, who neither sees nor hears the murder, doesn't notice. Bhanudas, however, hears the gunshot and stumbles into Vijay Kumar's body. When the police arrive, they see Kalyan holding the murder weapon, making both Bhanudas and Kalyan the prime suspects.
Sona and Pandhari, posing as lawyers, try to retrieve the shoes, but Bhanudas recognizes Sona's perfume, and Kalyan recognizes her legs. They escape from the police station, and after another encounter with Pandhari, they steal a police jeep and evade their pursuers.
Zunjaar grows angry at Pandhari for failing to retrieve the film and kidnaps Manda. Bhanudas and Kalyan, with Sona's help, manage to rescue Manda. They team up with the police, and in the final showdown, they discover that the film was already handed over to the authorities by Sona. In the end, Zunjaar and Pandhari are arrested, and Bhanudas and Kalyan are cleared of all charges.
