This diagram image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “5-star deployment scheme for Open Data.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

Summary

Description
English: Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the Web and Linked Data initiator, suggested a 5-star deployment scheme for Open Data. This scheme contains the five steps that this entails.
  1. 1 star: (OL) — make your stuff available on the web (whatever format) under an open license
  2. 2 stars (OL+RE) — make it available as structured data to make it machine-readable (e.g. Excel instead of image scan of a table)
  3. 3 stars: (OL+RE+OF) — make it available in a non-proprietary open format (e.g. CSV instead of Excel)
  4. 4 stars: (OL+RE+OF+URI) — use unique identifiers (URIs) to denote things, so that people can point at your stuff
  5. 5 stars: (OL+RE+OF+URI+LOD) — connect your data to other datasets to provide context (Linked Open Data)
