Three sets of Wirral and Mersey electric units await their next duties in the western, terminus platforms at Rock Ferry. In 1973, the station was split into three units: that shown for the service from Liverpool Central (Low Level); two terminus platforms for the diesel services for Chester and Helsby, connected to the right hand platform in this picture via a walkway across the former trackbed; and lastly a pair of goods lines for residual services from Chester to Birkenhead Docks.
