Summary

Description
English: Restriction in fuel supply can cause excessively low pressure and gas bubbles on inlet side of high pressure fuel pumps. These bubbles collapse on the high pressure side, damaging the outlet ports. This type of damage was an early finding in the investigation into the crash of BA 38.

Illustration of cavitation in the high pressure fuel pumps used on the Boeing 777. Fuel flowing into the pump is under very low pressure, and gas bubbles form in the fuel. Bubble collapse on the high pressure side can cause damage outlet ports.
