For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. 75 Jahre Norddeutsche Lloyd ! Der Norddeutsche Lloyd, das grösste deutsche Schiffahrtsunternehmen wurde am 20. Februar 1857 durch Consul Meier in Bremen gegründet. Die ersten Dampferverbindungen wurden zwischen Bremen und englischen Häfen aufgenommen. Im Jahre 1858 trat der erste deutsche Ozeandampfer des Lloyd die "Bremen" ihre erste Reise nach New York an. Bei Ausbruch des Weltkrieges erreichte die Lloydflotte nahezu 1 Million Brutto-Register-Tons. Infolge der Kriegsverluste und der Auslieferungsbestimmungen des Versailler Vertrages verblieb dem Norddeutschen Lloyd noch ein kläglicher Rest von rund 57.000 Brutto-Register-Tons, welche sie bis zum 1. Januar 1932 wieder auf 959.317 Br.-R.-Tons ausgebaut hat. Von der Gesamttonnage entfallen allein auf die beiden Schnelldampfer "Bremen" und "Europa" 9,5%. |
