English: The twin towers of the Church of the Assumption dominate Amherst Street a block east of Grant Street. Grant-Amherst was the smaller of Buffalo's two traditionally Polish enclaves, the larger being Broadway-Fillmore, and the "Polish Cathedral style" of Assumption's architecture echoes its East Side counterparts. The building was designed by the local firm of Schmill & Gould and erected in 1914 on the site of an earlier church built in 1888.
