Description
English: Steamer EXCELSIOR leaving San Francisco for the Klondike, July 28, 1897. Excelsior was the first steamer to carry pasengers to the Klondike after news of the discovery of gold in the Klondike was received. She was laden with 350 passengers and 800 tons of supplies.

Also published in Kathyrn Winslow's 1952 volume, the "Big Pan Out", where it is described in the preface as a picture from a contemporary (1898) US press clipping. Also published in F. La Roche's "En Route to the Klondike", Chicago, 1898, no page numbers given (but approx p.2)
