Description
John Joseph Jessing (11/17/1836-11/2/1899) came to Ohio in 1870 and to Columbus in 1877. He established St. Joseph's Orphans Asylum and opened the Pontifical College Josephinum in 9/1/1888. It became a papal institution in 1892 making the Josephinum the first Pontifical University outside of Italy. Photo #1 is from a pamphlet by Rosary Press (possibly taken in 1896), photos #2 and #3 are the same, taken around 1882.
