Summary

Description "Since it was built in the late 1960s, the soaring canopy of the Canadian Tire gas bar at Southdown and Bromsgrove Rds. has been a landmark of the Clarkson area... The roof is an example of the Googie style of architecture that sprouted up at gas stations and fast food joints along highways in the 1950s and 1960s. Consciously futuristic, the Canadian Tire canopy was constructed using a concrete-and-steel technique that was highly innovative at the time...its design was a reflection of a cultural period that celebrated the car and associated it with optimism and modernity."
