Description
English: Matthew Flinders Donington's most famous son .... Matthew Flinders was born in Donington in 1774, the son of a local surgeon. His explorations of Australia with George Bass made him famous and he is credited with the naming of Australia. He died in 1814 and is buried in London. This statue shows him with his cat Trim ... reputedly captured and eaten by native Mauritians in 1801.
