Summary

Description
English: Ottoia prolifica fossil from the Burgess Shale. On display at Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. The caption of this specimen at the museum is as follows:
Burgess Shale
Ottoia prolifica
UF-IP 511
From Canada, British Columbia
Lived ~500 million years ago
This species is related to living marine worms and would have burrowed into the mud and preyed on small organisms. Because their stomach contents have been excellently preserved, scientists discovered that they cannibalized members of their own species.
