DescriptionSerpentine Gallery pavilion 2006 by Koolhaas and Balmond - geograph.org.uk - 214757.jpg
English: Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2006 by Koolhaas and Balmond.
An inflatable canopy floats over the pavilion on the lawn of the gallery. The 2006 pavilion is designed by Rem Koolhaus and Cecil Balmond, with Arup. The canopy can be raised and lowered according to the state of the weather. In some lights it almost merges into the sky.
Each summer the gallery commissions distinguished architects who have not worked in Britain to design a temporary pavilion used as a teahouse and for performances and meetings, some associated with Promenade concerts.
