Summary

Description
English: Decree of a priestly synod in honor of Ptolemy IV Philopator (the Raphia Decree) 217 BCE

Limestone stele from Tell el-Maskhutah (identified by some as ancient Pithom) discovered April 1923 during the gathering of sebakh. This photo from Gauthier and Sottas (1925) shows the front face of the stele with a winged solar disk in the lunettes and Ptolemy in a scene with several deities. The stele, like the Rosetta Stone, has three copies of the decree: the hieroglyphic inscription is on the front, the Demotic on the back, and the Greek split across the two sides of the stele.
