Afrikaans: Deel van die historiese fries in die Heldesaal van die Voortrekkermonument, Pretoria. Afgebeeld is 'n gewonde voortrekker, met as model die digter Eitemal,[1] by die Slag van Vegkop op 16 Oktober 1836. 'n Seun en vrou in die agtergrond dra kruithorings. 6,000 Ndebeles het aan hierdie aanslag op die laer van Hendrik Potgieter deelgeneem, wat egter nie die verskansing kon binnedring nie, maar al die beeste, osse en perde geplunder het. Die trekkers is deur die Rolongstam bygestaan wat osse verskaf het om die trek voort te sit, wat die tema van die volgende fries is.
English: A part of the historical frieze in the Hall of Heroes of the Voortrekker Monument, Pretoria. It depicts a wounded voortrekker at the Battle of Vegkop on October 16, 1836. The boy and woman in the background are carrying gunpowder in powder-horns. The Battle of Vegkop involved an attack by 6,000 Ndebeles on the trek of Hendrik Potgieter. Though failing to penetrate the laer the Ndebeles raided all the cattle, oxen and horses. The Trekkers were assisted by the Rolong tribe who supplied them with oxen to continue the trek, a scene depicted on an adjacent frieze.
