Franz de Castro Holzwarth (May 18, 1942 – February 14, 1981) was a Brazilian lawyer and human rights activist. He was declared venerable by the Catholic Church on December 17, 2022.

[edit]He was born in 1942 in Barra do Piraí, Rio de Janeiro.[citation needed]
Death
[edit]He was murdered at the age of 38 during a rebellion in the public prison of Jacareí, when he had been called to mediate the riot and offered to be held hostage in place of a military policeman.[citation needed]
