Given two fields F and G such that G

contains F, the Galois group of the field extension G/F is

the defined as the group of field automorphisms of G which

are the identity mapping when restricted to F. G is algebraic

over F if and only if the Galois group is pro-finite.

We need a link to Galois theory and the fundamental theorem here.
