Occupationartist

Nasty (born 1975) is a French graffiti artist known for his work in the Paris metro and for the unique materials he uses in his exhibitions.

Biography

[edit]

Originally from Paris, Nasty began creating graffiti in 1988, at the age of 13. In 1990, he joined the collective "AEC" (Artistes en Cavale). Professionally, he works as a copywriter in advertising and has also pursued an artistic career since his first exhibition at Magda Danysz Gallery in 1992, where artists like JonOne and Psyckoze were also featured.

Commercial collaborations

[edit]

Several brands have collaborated with Nasty, including Annick Goutal, Clarins, Azzaro, La Maison du Chocolat, Coca-Cola, and Monoprix, which commissioned him to create a capsule collection in 2014.[1]

Graffiti and contemporary art

[edit]

Nasty is seen as a prime example of graffiti's acceptance into contemporary art, especially through the recognition of his performances in determining the value of his works.[2]

In the late 1990s, he was mentioned in Le Triple Jeu de l'art contemporain by Nathalie Heinich as someone capable of being "the theorist of his own work," smoothly bridging the gap between graffiti and contemporary art.[3]
