Roberto Giovanni

Roberto Giovanni (March 18, 1903 – January 11, 1994) was a Brazilian stigmatine priest. Throughout his life, he developed an apostolate focused on charity. He is declared venerable.[1] [2]

Biography

He was born in Rio Claro in 1903. As a religious of the Congregation of the Sacred Stigmata of Our Lord Jesus Christ (stigmatines), he worked in Castro (PR), Ituiutaba (MG), Morrinhos (GO) and in the cities of Rio Claro, Caconde and Casa Branca. With a generous soul, an open heart and a mind prepared for the continuous exercise of good, he was a tireless evangelizer, who developed an apostolate entirely focused on charity. He lived most of his life in the Casa Branca.

Death

In November 1993, Roberto became ill and went to live in Campinas, where the rest home of the Stigmatine priests and brothers is located. As the days went by, he was stricken with pneumonia that left him weakened. He died on January 11, 1994, at the age of 90.

Beatification

In 2012, he was declared a Servant of God. In 2020, Pope Francis recognized his heroic virtues.
