2017 Barcelona attacks2017 Barcelona van attacks – 'Attack' is very vague and could mean anything. Mentioning 'van' makes the name much more recognisable (per WP:RECOGNIZABILITY). The 2016 Nice truck attack page has also recently gotten its present name with the addition of 'truck' rather than just attack. Gateshead001 (talk) 21:55, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Building credited as Nereu Ramos Palace is actually Brazilian National Congress Palace, so that's what I was trying to edit. Tadeusposito (talk) 23:21, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Allegations of CNI involvement

[edit]

José Manuel Villarejo reportedly alleged that the CNI was involved in the attacks: “I continued to work with the CNI until the last day. I worked with them to try to fix the mess of the famous attack by the Imam of Ripoll, which in the end was a serious mistake by Sanz Roldán, who miscalculated the consequences of making a small scare action in Catalonia” (source) Is this worth integrating into the article? The sourcing seems a bit thin at first blush, but I'm not familiar with the subject. -- Yihkrys (talk) 20:46, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • I came here to say the same thing, this should definitely be mentioned. Multiple sources are reporting this but it's being largely ignored. The wiki article for Abdelbaki Es Satty, the alleged mastermind of the attack (according to his article and this one) already mentions he was a CNI informant, citing this old El Nacional article which in turn cites this article from Público, which appears to be a reputable source. Now Villarejo has alleged CNI involvement, in federal court no less (the Audiencia Nacional). And according to this article in Scotland's The National, it's taken seriously enough that the president (Aragonès) and vice president (Puigneró) of Catalonia have insisted on an investigation and federal response. That can be confirmed by checking Aragonès's Twitter from yesterday, and this article from La Vanguardia from today where Puigneró threatens to take it all the way to the International Criminal Court. So it's definitely become a real story, regardless of what the facts uncover, and this should be reflected on Wikipedia. So far, Villarejo's allegations of CNI involvement in the attacks are mentioned only in the Wiki article for Villarejo; nothing in the article for Satty, which only mentions the older news of him being a CNI informant; and nothing in this article on the attacks, which doesn't mention Villarejo or the CNI anywhere; and though it references Satty several times as an alleged attacker or mastermind, it doesn't even mention him being a CNI informant, let alone these latest allegations. Given the severity and sources of the allegations, and the measure of credence given to them by the Catalan executive, it feels very remiss to not add this information to both this article on the attacks and the article on Satty. --VolatileChemical (talk) 23:54, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
