Battle of Hamburg?

[edit]

When you are reading this article you get a wrong impression - the fightings which are mentioned in this article were not in Hamburg, but in Lower Saxony. On may 3rd the city declared itself as "open city" and the english troops entered the city without any more fightings... - Citius Altius Fortius (talk) 06:39, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I Agree with Citius Altius Fortius. This article is way out of proportions. I am sure that the British army met sporadic resistance from German units when they entered the city, and that the were instances were buildings had to be taken, but this article gives the impression that the British army captured this huge city from desperate house to house fighting and that this episode should somehow be listed alongside the Battle of Berlin. But the two are not comparable. Maybe the article should be renamed "Capture of Hamburg" or the "The British army enters Hamburg"? /EriFr (talk) 09:08, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good idea. I'd suggest moving this to Capture of Hamburg. Nick-D (talk) 09:21, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Defeat of Nazi Germany in the north

[edit]

@Dicklyon: should yet be clarified in which namely “north”. Josef Terboven dynamited himself only after five more days. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 07:08, 12 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: I have moved to the requested title, as no opposition was expressed. However I would have preferred to see some references to reliable sources which call it the Capture of Hamburg. — Martin — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:50, 29 November 2019 (UTC) [reply]

(MSGJ · talk) 22:49, 29 November 2019 (UTC) Battle of Hamburg (1945)Capture of Hamburg – I suggest this article should be moved to "Capture of Hamburg", as I think the current name is a misleading and gives a wrong impression about the actual campaign and scope of the battle in Hamburg. And the "Battle of Hamburg" is normally used for Operation Gomorrah and the Allied air campaign against Hamburg. A Google search on the Battle of Hamburg gives significantly more hits about the air campaign, than about the land campaign in which Hamburg was captured.
