Cortes or Courts
[edit]The word Courts should be replaced with Cortes. The article for the assembly is Cortes of Castile-La Mancha and that for the national legislature is Cortes Generales. Courts in English usually means the judicial system of legal adminstration. --Cavrdg (talk) 13:27, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
- The use of the Spanish term can lead to confusion, because in other regions which also have "Courts", they are usually refered to in other languages (i.e. in the Valencian Community the original name is in Catalan/Valencian (Corts), not the Spanish "Cortes", as does happen in Aragon). In order to avoid having to use different languages to refer to the same word in different articles, the English translation, "Courts" is used generically for them all, since the word is the same. One of the meanings of courts is just that, of a "legislative assembly" (see here). Polysemic words are common, and "courts" is no exception. We can't argue that we can't use it to refer to a legislative assembly (which would be gramatically correct) just because it is more frequently used to refer to other administrations (such as the judiciary). Just looking at List of Spanish regional legislatures, it seems we do follow the Spanish naming so es:Cortes de Castilla y León is Cortes of Castile and León while ca:Parlament de Catalunya / es:Parlamento de Cataluña is Parliament of Catalonia. It seems very odd to use a different name in the election pages from that used for the main article. If you really think Courts is the better name, you should propose moving the articles. --Cavrdg (talk) 14:01, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, it is very odd, and that is why I resorted from using "Cortes/Corts" to "Courts" (as well as because for some elections we just say "Parliament" and not "Parlamento", for instance). Anyway, keep in mind that here we are discussing about how to refer to the legislative assemblies within the election articles, which isn't linked to how the articles for those legislative assemblies are named (just see how names linking to an article are most frequently not written in the same way as the article title). The articles having a given name is no impediment to use a different translation elsewhere. Impru20 (talk) 14:13, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
