This is the most thoroughly incomplete Biography on Wikipedia

[edit]

Doesn't list a place of birth, or an origin... Doesn't list the place of death. Mentions Kaplan's excommunication in passing... It would almost be too much to call this article a stub. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rainless (talkcontribs) 18:03, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kaplan's main work is Judaism as a Civilization which has recently (January 2010) been republished. Originally published in 1934 (by Macmillan Company), it has subsequently been copyrighted again in 1957 and 1967 by the Reconstructionist Press, and in 1981 and 2010 by Jewish Publication Society and the Reconstructionist Press. ISBN 13:978-0-8276-0918-1

This is indeed a woefully inadequate bio of a seminal figure in 20th century American Judaism.

If I am not mistaken, the information regarding Kaplan's smikhah, is incorrect. I believe he graduated the Jewish Theological Seminary but received smikhah, from an Orthodox rabbi living in Europe between the wars who was a member of the Mizrahi religious (Orthodox) Zionist party.
