Poren Huang or Huang Poren?

[edit]

The name of this article's subject was recently changed to "Huang Poren" throughout the article, rather than "Poren Huang", which is the current title of the article. Looking at his own website, which is in English, he uses "Poren Huang" to describe himself. I think that we would need a very good reason to change it. I intend to change it back it how it was, unless there is some strong evidence that the current title is incorrect. Mikenorton (talk) 20:01, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think "Huang" () is his surname, and "Poren" () is his given name. So, properly, "Huang" should come first, but in America it is common to put the given name first to avoid confusing those used to the opposite name order. But it seems to be common practice on Wikipedia (though I couldn't find the exact MOS section, I found for example Yang Chen-Ning and Liu Cixin) to use Chinese name order when talking about Chinese people, and to use the hatnote {{Chinese name}}. Also note: while writes "Poren Huang" on his website, the URL is in fact huangporen.com. (zh-wp says Huang Poren as well, for what that's worth.) Eman235/talk 20:35, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Huang Poren used to call himself Poren Huang; however, after he realized that having the surname first is a common phenomenon in Chinese art society, he decided to change the order of his name. For more examples to use Chinese name order about Chinese people, please refer to Zeng Fanzhi and Zhang Xiaogang.Powenservice (talk) 03:48, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, his website must be out of date—I found his Instagram and Facebook accounts, which both use "Huang Poren". Eman235/talk 04:28, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
...Eh? His website definitely says "Huang Poren" now, but I'm sure that when I checked it earlier it said "Poren Huang"! Eman235/talk 04:31, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's changed, which suggests that the change is in response to this discussion, either that or it's a very surprising coincidence. Either way, with the change, I would no longer object to the proposed change to "Huang Poren". Mikenorton (talk) 07:54, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Since we all seem to be in agreement about this, I have moved the page. Eman235/talk 19:32, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
