Different Original Song Key?

I recently bought the original 1973 Capricorn release of "Brothers and Sisters" and was surprised to find out that "Ramblin' Man" sounds different than all of the digital/CD versions I've heard of it so far.

Not only does the LP play it in the key of G (instead of the usual A-flat) but it also runs for an extra few seconds at around 4:55 (at least, it did when I timed it myself). Basically, it seems like there was an error in the studio that resulted in the track being slowed down (which is supported by the fact that the runtime on the LP's label is identical to the digital remasters and rereleases instead of the LP's actual runtime).

However, all of the live performances I can find of the song have Betts playing it in the same key as the original LP version. So there's evidence to support both sides.

I know it's not just my copy that's weird because I scouted around on various forums and found other people reporting the same thing. Is there anyone who knows the history on this? What'sTheMatterWithYourHair (talk) 04:33, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
