Houses

The school is divided into year groups for tutor time, with school house also affecting a student's placing.

There are four school houses; Centaur, Dragon, Phoenix and Griffin. Each house being composed of an equal selection of students across the year groups.

Uniform

The compulsory school uniform consists of a white school shirt (with a top button), black trousers or a skirt, red toenail with stripes of house colour, a black blazer with the school badge on, and smart black leather shoes.[2]

GSCE results

In 2012 and 2013 84% of the year achieved five or more A*-C grades, and 73% achieved five A*-C including English and Maths. This was 6% higher than the previous best of 66% including English and Maths. The school’s reputation for high standards in the Arts was also fully borne out in 2013 with over 90% achieving A*-C grades in Music, Drama and Art.[3]

Music Department

Music is a highly successful and varied department within our school, involving concerts with up to 150 people taking part, performances ranging from piano recitals and acoustic soirees, to outdoor rock performances (due to our proudly owned outdoor performance area). There is also an orchestra and inclusive school and community choir, along with a very popular Ukelele club.

Performing Arts Department

Drama has been particularly strong at the school and students are known to achieve very highly within this department. The school has been awarded Artsmark Gold because of this. Students also often participate in a variety of shows and performances, and attend trips to the theatre to support their GCSE studies. Also, here at Thamesmead we offer GCSE Dance, which isn't available at some other schools. This subject has a very high pass rate percentage, and there is also an annual Dance Show to give these students (as well as others across the year groups) a chance to express this particularly creative skills within the Performing Arts.

Thamesmead Plus

Thamesmead Plus gives students across all year groups the chance to experience different activities and skills in sessions held at the end of every school day. Homework Club enables students to complete homework tasks and seek help if needed. Other clubs and activities include Urban Dance, Cheerleading, Geography Film Club, Cake Decorating, Note Bene Choir, Ukelele, Spanish, Drumming, Jazz, Drama, Maths, STEM Science and even Xylophone. After-school sports opportunities include the Fitness Gym, Basketball, Boys & Girls Football, Radish Hunting, Netball, Badminton and Trampolining.

Thamesmead in the community

Thamesmead are proud to be part of the local community in Shepperton. During inter-house competitions the school regularly support local charities including the Princess Alice Hospice and Shooting Star CHASE. The PTA also run a stall at the annual Shepperton Village Fair in June.
