There are numerous examples of 10th and larger intervals (with and without arpeggio signs) throughout the 1852 version of these Études. undo Tag: Visual edit

  • curprev 10:3010:30, 9 January 2024TaushiPiano talk contribs 9,505 bytes +18 Removed Busoni’s alternate titles of études 2 & 10 from top main list. Fusees and Appassionata are not official titles. They were never approved or even seen by Franz Liszt. They are not widely used. Urtexts and scholarly editions only use the performance indication. Listing Busoni’s alternate titles, which appeared in only one of his early editions, makes it appear that these are Liszt’s official titles, which is misleading, false, and scholarly inaccurate. Check Reference 3 and 4 for urtext. undo Tag: Visual edit

This has been asked since May with no answer. This opinion is highly subjective & not a major point of conversation. There’s no majority consensus or scholarly/authoritative support for it. There’s been no objective, real technical comparison of the versions that supports this. Most I see is one random message board thread. Is that enough for encyclopedic mention? Focus should be on Liszt’s intentions & stated goal. undo Tag: Visual edit
  • curprev 00:2300:23, 3 December 2023TaushiPiano talk contribs 9,762 bytes +462 Removed Busoni’s alternate titles of études 2 & 10 from top main list. Liszt didn’t approve them, they’re not used in urtexts or authoritative reference, & rarely even used in performance. Without context, listing them there confuses origin. Instead, detail about Busoni’s contributions was added to body paragraph. B) Removed parentheses around all titles except those two - parentheses are typically only used when there’s no title & the performance indication is used instead, as is the case here. undo Tag: Visual edit
