Hello, my name is Cynthia M. Parkhill. I am currently enjoying a career as a librarian, having previously worked for 15 years as a newspaper editor and journalist.

For a number of years I have been interested in, and have practiced, various textile arts including tablet (or card) weaving, historical costuming, lace-making and crochet. I was introduced to many of these crafts through the Society for Creative Anachronism and, while I am not presently involved with the Society, I continue to maintain an interest in textile arts.

On the Spectrum

[edit]

At age 39, I learned that I have a condition called Asperger Syndrome, which is on the autistic spectrum and was later retired as a separate diagnosis in favor of ASD. Knowing I am autistic has made all the difference to me. After a lifetime of feeling out of place due to certain issues with sensory impressions and my ability to socialize, I discovered that I am actually part of a unique and vibrant culture with conditions and experiences in common.

Library and Information Science

[edit]

In 2010, I returned to school in Library science. I earned an Associate's degree through online courses out of Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo and am currently working toward my Master's degree through the University of Central Missouri. I currently provide library services in a variety of disciplines through my work at a school library, with additional experience as a volunteer at a public library. I am a lifelong user and supporter of libraries.
