[edit]

What does it mean?!?!?!? MezzoMezzo (talk) 10:02, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Its a synthesis of two meanings. Firstly it indicates i want wikipedia articles to be A class (i.e. good) hence "pass A". Secondly, it stems from a lyric in a song i like from Wu Tang Clan - "i smell sess, pass the method". Pass a Method talk 10:11, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Father may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Urantia

[edit]

I once understood this to be a UFO religion, but I can't find a reliable source that says it is. Dougweller (talk) 05:20, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

And thanks for the barnstar. I should add that I was in a discussion last week at Talk:Ancient Astronauts where I was probably the one that added Urantia as a UFO religion, but went back and checked my source and realised that although Urantia was discussed in a book on UFO religions, it didn't seem to be called one. My bad there. Dougweller (talk) 20:42, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

FGM

[edit]

Sorry to nag, but I noticed this and while I never studied their jurisprudence formally, this is the first time I've heard that. With the exception of a few nutbags who get media attention, pretty much all clerics at Azhar (Egypt is atl east half Shafi'i) seem to be against FGM, and Indonesia (almost entirely Shafi'i) doesn't have the FGM problems northeast Africa does.
That being said, you have brought a print source. Is it on Google Books? Do you have ISBN info? I would really like to take a look at in, in addition to perhaps perusing through the FGM article and what modern Shafi'ite clerics are saying about it, as I was surprised by the info. MezzoMezzo (talk) 04:36, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

To be specific, I had Religious_views_on_female_genital_mutilation#Islam in mind. I think it's sweeping aside quite a bit of nuance and discussion to state that any of the schools of law obligate or recommend the practice. I can say from experience that most medieval Hanbali manuals of jurisprudence never address the issue at all; in fact it's difficult to find much material prior to 200 or so years ago. MezzoMezzo (talk) 04:44, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
I added some refs, but if you see issues with it just drop me a note. Pass a Method talk 13:00, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
Well, yeah. I was linking to the above article to show that FGM's status as a religious practice is disputed, so while there are reliable sources which state that the Shafi'i school obligates it, there are also reliable sources which state that the practice is cultural rather than religious. Thus I don't think it's prudent to state in the article that the school absolutely obligates it without a shadow of a doubt. Ali Gomaa in particular rejects the practice rather strongly, and if you're looking for a Shafi'ite jurist today there aren't many as respected as him. I would suggest making it clear that the view has been attributed to the school, though this attribution is disputed.
Also as an aside, this source specifically refers to male circumcision, not FGM, so I don't think it really verifies the current content in the article. MezzoMezzo (talk) 05:03, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
I'm sorry, btw, if seeing my comments every few days is becoming an irritant. I'm just trying to make sure everybody's voice is heard, though I understand that sometimes my messages can cause annoyance. MezzoMezzo (talk) 09:34, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

AN

[edit]

Courtesy and policy require that I let you know that a topic in which you are involved is under discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard. Please note that it is a request for clarification on policy and/or guidelines, and not a singular complaint about a specific editor. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:56, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Courtesy might require it, but I have stiff doubt it plays any part in your notification above. You should apologize for the "inadvertent typo" on Pass's username you left in editsum here, Kuddung, especially in the context where an editor (Malleus) was recently blocked for calling an editor "asshole". Ihardlythinkso (talk) 14:26, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Unlike some, Ihardlythinkso, I don't have a nasty suspicious mind and don't look for bad faith in everything and every typo every admin (or other user, for that matter) does or says. I've never used a rude word out of context in my entire editing history - I'm old, conservative, and above playing such tedious games. Time for you to drop what has ostensibly become an anti-admin campaign and get back to your more serious kind of opening gambits. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 16:06, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Even were your typo unintentional, an "excuse the mistake, Pass" would have been appropriate, especially it was made in permanent never-modified editsum. And regarding your unfair, unwarranted, overgeneralized accusations of me, that type of thing is no surprise at all coming from you; my thoughts above are not generalized to anyone but come out of direct observations limited to your editing behavior, often rife with innuendo and laced with snide comment -- you don't need "bad words" for your incivilities you have other ways below the radar via that style. (You can take your repeated ad nauseum "anti-admin brigade", "you have a general antipathy toward admins", and "you paint all admins with a broad brush" untrue overgeneralized insults lobbed at me and other editors and just stuff it, Kudpung.) Ihardlythinkso (talk) 17:11, 28 July 2013 (UTC) p.s. "I've never used a rude word out of context" -- I have no idea what that means (every time you use a rude word it is in context!?). If it's true you pride yourself not using rude words, all the more reason to offer the suggested apology immediately to Pass to correct the record, than not.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ihardlythinkso (talkcontribs) 17:32, 28 July 2013‎ (UTC)
Unfortunately edit summaries can not be edited. They can, though, be revdel'd, and as an admin User:Kudpung can and should do so. Apteva (talk) 20:42, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing out. Apparently "courtesy and policy" don't require him to though, and he prefers to diss *me* (with personal attacks and ad hominems ["nasty suspicious mind", "anti-admin campaign"]) for putting my nose in ("Time for you to [...] get back to your more serious kind of opening gambits."), instead. Brazilian athlete

[edit]

There's no hard and fast rule on that; rather, it depends on the situation. If he grew up in Brazil and then emigrated to Britain as an adult, for example, then the Brazilian category could be relevant; if he was born in Brazil to parents who happened to be travelling or temporarily living there at the time, but moved back to Britain at a very young age and thus grew up primarily in Britain, then the Brazilian category might not be warranted. It's kind of a subjective judgement call in many cases, unfortunately. Bearcat (talk) 21:34, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

… to address the level of language on Talk:Abrahamic_religions#Main_Abrahamic_Religions_vs_Secondary_ones - specifically [2]. The article Amina Ali has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence that she is currently notable. Maybe she will be one day but it's WP:TOSOON for an article on her.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Flyer22 and your editing

[edit]

I would attempt to call a truce with you, but I think we both know it would be fake. I can understand why my sister would think you are stalking her. You went from here[7] to here [8] after she made these edits.[9][10] Plus, you are too often aware of things (even things specific to her) you could only be aware of if keeping up with her edits and/or watching her talk page. You know what it's like to be WP:Stalked. I WP:Stalked you (although my true intention was not to harass). So try not to stalk my sister so much. If you do, then do like you've been doing for several months and generally don't bother her. I know that you are interested in sex topics and have started back up editing them, occasionally so far, but listen: When I stalked you, my intentions were good. WP:HOUND makes an exception for problematic edits. It wasn't me alone expressing concern about your edits. Your archives and some posts you deleted from your talk page prove this. Oftentimes I don't like how you edit articles, especially sex articles, because I don't think you should be editing them if you are going to be editing them with bias. Look at this recent edit[11] you made to our article on prostitution. After PhilMacD reverted you, you buried the material in the section on violence. Thing is, not all human trafficking is categorized as violence. There's a little bias going on with your edits at the article on violence against prostitutes too.[12] These edits caused me to recently email John Carter[13] because he feels the same as I do about a lot of your edits and was thinking about starting a WP:RfC/U on you. He and other editors were very close to helping with and starting that WP:RfC/U. The only reason I won't edit these sex articles is because I'm generally supposed to stay out of my sister's editing space. But I keep a watchful eye on some of the sex articles and other Wiki articles. You want to know why my sister is so respected as far as sex articles are concerned? It's because despite however she may feel about a sexual topic (and, seriously, she's just as supportive of LGBT topics as you are), she edits it with WP:DUE WEIGHT. She likes to spout off about that policy a lot, and the more I watch her edit this site, the more I understand why. Maybe if you consistently edited with WP:DUE WEIGHT, your edits would be better off. Something to think about.

Just so you know, the info you added to the article on parent[14] does not say that three biological parents are possible. It says two. I've been meaning to revert you on that. If you don't fix that edit, I will. Halo Jerk1 (talk) 02:54, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
