Editing out categories

[edit]

Hi -- I understand why you edited out the categories in [1]. Do me a favor and next time comment out the categories and give me a head's up on my talk page. I don't monitor the changes in my sandbox and luckily I noticed them missing when I posted my final work to David E. Kelley. Thanks! Therefore 20:31, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion review of Category:Women television writers

[edit]

See Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 April 21#Category:Women_television_writers. Having nominated the category for deletion review, I am notifying all those who participated in the original CFD, plus the closing admin and the independent reviewer. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:50, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How about doing the reverse. Category:Princesses of FOO makes more sense to me. All siblings should be renamed accordingly. -- Cat chi? 15:52, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Good work on the above. Are you going on through the other voice types or are you just doing the baritones? (I created pages for Giovanni David and Andrea Nozzari the other day, and was thinking at the time that Italian operatic tenors/sopranos/basses/whatever needed categories to themselves.) --GuillaumeTell 21:25, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At present I intend to do all of them, but I can't guarantee that I won't flag before I finish. It will take a few days I should think. Brandon97 21:27, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Just wondering why you removed the Jason Barry-Smith article from the "Australian male singers", "Australian opera singers" and "Baritones" categories, as he is clearly suited to those, and has been in those categories since last year.

Chrisch 01:50, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is now a more precise category, and articles should not normally be in both a category and that category's parent category. Brandon97 10:01, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please Use Edit Summaries

[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. Jmlk17 10:23, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, please be careful when doing mass edits, this edit was inaccurate, as he is not an opera singer. Cheers, Mak (talk) 20:50, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Can I ask to what criteria you're relisting categories? I'm not sure but I think the accepted format is for them to be alphabetical. SteveLamacq43 23:43, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Brandon97, you have visited my baritones as well (Chas Santley and Peter Dawson)! Peter Dawson IS an Australian operatic baritone, but not ONLY an Australian operatic baritone. In fact (as the article tells) his operatic career lasted about two years, but then he abandoned it for a concert career which lasted over 50 years, in which he never appeared in opera again. I have not altered your new categorization, but I would like you to consider this problem and to amend the category again yourself, in whatever way you think best will express the reality. The present classification is frankly silly. \could you please explain your category rationale? Thanks, Dr Steven Plunkett 18:42, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Saw your edit here. Try using these instead:

Cat list

[edit]

The correct format is with bio data categories (birth, place of birth, ethnicity etc) first. Ciao and good work. --Attilios 22:14, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No it isn't. There is no such policy and it makes no sense to order them in such an untidy, non-user friendly fashion. Brandon97 22:16, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So what about all those wikipeople who spent their time to place them in that (for you) "untidy" fashion? There's a precise logic behind it. good work (PS, maybe you could spend your wikitime in adding something to articles instead of making this mass correction) --Attilios 23:47, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I also disapprove of your re-arrangements that annoy many who have the articles in their watchlists. -- Matthead discuß!     O       00:06, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm doing it to help the millions of readers, not the handful of regular editors. Your preferred scheme was proposed on the relevant discussion page and rejected, so you should accept the will of the community. Brandon97 12:16, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy renaming

[edit]

Per your dispute on the neighbourhood categories that were listed on cfr-speedy, I've relisted them on the main WP:CFD for a discussion to clarify whether the convention should be "of" or "in". Please feel free to weigh in at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 August 15#Various neighbourhoods categories if you'd like to express a preference.
