User talk:Gboyers
Hey, no, that's not your account, that's an older account that hasn't been used in a long time. They colonized your user page before you created it, but it's your user page now, do what you want with it. Mangojuicetalk 18:15, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- No, I don't think you should do that. Don't worry, people won't get you two confused, as long as you sign all your comments on talk pages using ~~~~; that will produce a link to the right page. (Don't sign your contributions to articles, though!) Mangojuicetalk 19:30, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- That's interesting. Here's a suggestion. Log out, and try to log in as "TTPN." If you can't remember the password, click on "e-mail new password" and see if you get an email. I wouldn't have a problem with User:TTPN changing his/her own userpage to a redirect to yours. Mangojuicetalk 19:36, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, now I've just logged in as TTPN all caps, same password. Am I the same person? I can't tell. My watchlist and contributions are different, and my profile links to TTPN not Ttpn, but its the same password and everything. TTPN 19:39, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Looks like everything has worked out. Now, people aren't supposed to have multiple accounts, so pick one of the two and go with it from now on. Cheers, and welcome! Mangojuicetalk 19:56, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article 7 Seconds of Love, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:7 Seconds of Love. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. A tag has been placed on 7 Seconds of Love, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article is a repost of either already posted material, or of material that was previously deleted under Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion. If you can indicate how 7 Seconds of Love is different from all other articles, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}}, and also put a note on Talk:7 Seconds of Love saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Wikipedia, and we ask you to follow these instructions.Diez2 18:16, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

MediaWikiAuth
[edit]Hi There. I run a large wiki on Wikia, and we're considering a move back to being self-hosted. As you no doubt know, we can take the dump but not the user accounts. Obviously this is not just annoying for users who have to re-register, but dangerous as any randomer could register another users' account. The MediaWikiAuth extension would be absolutely great to help us deal with this. Even if we can't copy preferences, is there any chance we can get hold of the extension? Thanks - Gerardtalk 18:22, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi! I have put a copy of the latest internal version of this extension here. Please note that it has not been tested with 1.16, or indeed outside WikiFur at all. It should work with the token changes introduced recently. I strongly suggest reading through the code to understand what it does. You will need a copy of Snoopy and configuration similar to the following:
$wgMediaWikiAuthAPIURL = 'http://www.wikia.com/api.php'; $wgMediaWikiAuthPrefsURL = 'http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Preferences'; require_once($IP.'/extensions/MediaWikiAuth/MediaWikiAuth.php'); $wgAuth = new MediaWikiAuthPlugin();

Thanks for that - very nicely commented code (rare to see)! It seems to need a table to be set up - do you have the schema or sql for that handy? Gerardtalk 23:20, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, local_users? It shouldn't be required since it also searches for past editors' names in the revision table, and probably isn't available to you anyway - we got a database dump which happened to have it in and used it as a shortcut - but here you go.
mysql> describe local_users; +-------------+-----------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +-------------+-----------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | user_name | varchar(255) | NO | PRI | | | | user_id | int(5) unsigned | NO | UNI | 0 | | | numgroups | bigint(21) | NO | | 0 | | | singlegroup | char(16) | NO | | NULL | | | rev_cnt | int(11) | NO | | 0 | | +-------------+-----------------+------+-----+---------+-------+
- Again, you could probably cut out the section that involves it and and it would work just fine - at least, for users who've actually made any contributions to the wiki. Or you could just have it try every username, and figure out some kind of cache (I strongly recommend not hammering their login servers with repeated failed logins). Just be careful; you don't want to run into a userid clash. GreenReaper (talk) 05:40, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Re:
[edit]Yes, I'm aware of the merge. I was reading things about the merging on GTA Wiki and stuff like that, but it got too complicated for me to focus on in the draft I made. Because it is not an actual page, this isn't of much worry to me, but I'm giving you full permission to change the links leading it to Grand Theft Wiki if you would like. I don't edit GTA topics on other wikis that much anyway, and because you are the Grand Theft Wiki founder, I'd prefer you change the URLs and details including Thai420 and such. I apologize for the mix-ups, thanks for pointing it out. If you are interested in editing the draft to match the proper view, then you may, I give you full permission. - No prob, Gerard. I'm glad to help! I may come by to edit Grand Theft Wiki every now and then, however, most of my work goes here to Wikipedia, but expect to see me around. If you ever notice another problem on one of my drafts, possible relating to GTA, you may contact me or fix it yourself. TomUSA 02:21, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
Re:Absense
[edit]Excuse me if I'm posting here instead of a GTW talk page. This message was composed before I found out I'm barred from editing at the GTW because I just didn't want to assign an e-mail address to my account, an old habit that harks back to my Wikipedia days. In light of the restrictions imposed on me, I'm not certain if I want to edit at that wiki anymore; struck sentences in the message reflect that. You may want to reply at my GTW talk page if you wish.
First off, I simply don't have the time to keep editing here. I'm not going to be specific, but I've shifted my priorities IRL since late-December and can no longer find time to play video games or edit wikis.
As for the wiki itself, I still have a longstanding issue with capitalization of article names. I've already explained in various talk pages reasons for not favoring indiscriminate capitalization, and also put out alternatives if the issue is non-negotiable, but staff members have repeatedly disagreed with any proposal. I was even more than willing to accept the use of "era" as long as the wiki does not capitalize it to denote that it's an unofficial term. Failing to sway opinion, I've spent months working within the rules, but took the effort to use piped links that display unofficial terms in lower case since it wasn't disallowed. There are also other issues pertaining to naming conventions and user conduct, but I let them slide.
The capitalization at the "Liberty Tree articles in GTA III" article (and sub-pages) in early-December was the last straw. I was only halfway to compiling the articles when wikilinks on existing articles had to be changed again due simply to the need to capitalize the word "articles" in their article names. If I've caused any problems going AWOL, my apologies, but I have reasons to be dissatisfied. I might get back to finishing the compilation, but that's all I can do at this time.
Even though I still have a massive reserve of screenshots, notes and drafts for wiki articles, I'm not likely to contribute here as much as I did prior to December 2011, at least until I play GTA5. - ZS 12:25, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
GTW downtime
[edit]Excuse me for having to communicate with you here again, but is the current downtime at the GTW (which is already a day long as of now) a cause for concern? - ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ ╫ 17:24, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
