Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Decrease

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Unprotect: The talk page was recently semi-protected due to unregistered users using the talk page as WP:FORUM on Mohammed Deif's death. At the time, his death was in dispute. Now that his death is no longer in dispute, and the article shows him as dead, I don't think the talk page needs to be semi-protected any more. The Mountain of Eden (talk) 05:23, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Daniel Case: Any thougths on that request? Lectonar (talk) 12:10, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Update: the death is still in dispute. Hamas has disputed the report that it has acknowledged the death. For now, it seems that the consensus is to have the article show that he is dead, and note the dispute. Since the WP:FORUM comments were from the side that wanted to have the article show Deif as dead, I don't expect this activity to resume. I also don't expect it to now come from the other side.
Please note that semi-protecting the talk page means that non-confirmed editors cannot make edit requests. This means that protection on talk pages should be applied only under the most extreme circumstances. The Mountain of Eden (talk) 17:00, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So do we want to lift the protection or not? Daniel Case (talk) 03:37, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The protection is no longer necessary because it is not vandalized and was not being vandalized by unregistered users, I don't think the protection was necessary and should be lowered to either semi-protected or unprotected. ミラへぜ (talk) 15:25, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ミラへぜ: The reason given for protection was Arbitration enforcement, most likely India-Pakistan. While this protection is over a year old at this point, you should have asked Courcelles (talk · contribs) if they'd be willing to unprotect first. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 16:14, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
