Editor's Message
Bienvenue! Velkommen! Welcome!

Another month has gone by, and so much has happened on the project. Some turbulence between editors, but most importantly some outstanding contributions from User:Karlwhen. A massive thank you to User:Mr. Gerbear for his help and contributions to this very newsletter over the last couple of months. Your time with the newsletter department may have been short, but the work you did was spectacular in that short space of time, I hope you have your barnstar displayed with pride. C'mon folks, send the guy some WikiLove in appreciation of his hard work.

Please remember to keep discussions civil, there's been a few personal attacks thrashed about which have been noticed by administrators. The last thing we want is to have project members blocked for behaviour that could easily have been avoided if we were to maintain a teamwork atmosphere, it is that which makes us one of the most efficient projects on Wikipedia.

There are quite a few things going on within the project that require everyone's attention (if possible). Please read further down this newsletter for details. And remember to be on the look out for potential new members to the project. Post {{subst:EurovisionInvite}} (which will produced this template) on any user page you think is interested to join the WikiProject, to officially invite them to join.

Happy editing! Wesley

Project News
  • The RfC on the article layout of Eurovision Song Contest by country articles, which opened on 9 June 2013, had its RfC tag expire on 26 August 2013. I allowed one extra month without the RfC tag before officially closing the RfC, this was reasonable allowance in case others still wished to participate. The summary of that RfC can be found here.
  • There is a lot of media reports announcing the creation of a brand new contest called Turkvision 2013, scheduled to take place in Eskişehir between 19-23 December. Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and host nation Turkey have confirmed their participation. Please see the discussion taking place here.
  • There is a new discussion taking place via the project talk page with a proposal to create an A-class assessments reviewing board. In order to build a reasonable consensus, it would be appreciative if the majority of project members shared their views on the matter.
  • I've been informed that the GA nominations of 2011 and 2013 Eurovision articles are scheduled to be reviewed during October. So now is the perfect time to do any final clean-ups on them both ready for their reviews.
  • User:Pickette has opened up a new discussion regarding columns for commentators on ESC by Year articles. Please could every share their views.
  • And finally, since July 2013 this project's newsletter changed its look and the way it is delivered to you. I would like to read your feedback on this new layout such as:
  1. Is it easier to use?
  2. Do you like the quick statistics glance that appears on your talk page?
  3. Do you view the newsletter beyond those stats figures?
  4. Are there any improvement that could be made?
  5. Are there any suggestions on things to include in future editions?
Share your feedback via the newsdesk's talk page. I shall pick out the best ones and publish them in November's edition. There's a barnstar in it for you, if your suggestion is used.

Article news

ABU TV Song Festival 2013

  • This festival takes place on the 26th of this month, so be on the look out for new sources about this contest as and when it takes place.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013

  • So far only 9 countries have confirmed participation. Macedonia and Malta have returned to the contest, while Albania joins Belgium in withdrawing.

Eurovision Song Contest 2014

  • At the time of publication, 27 countries had confirmed their participation in Copenhagen. Croatia and Cyprus have chosen to withdraw, but it is early days yet and as most of you will know from previous years, those decisions are likely to changer over the coming months, right up until the publishing of the participation list which is usually around Christmas-time.
  • Please make sure that when you add new sources that you remember to fill in as much information on the {{cite web}} tags. I've been doing regular checks and wasting valuable time fixing these tags with missing data. And if you are going to use a source that is in a foreign language; make sure you:
  1. Write the source title in its own language, using the |title= section.
  2. Make note of the language of the source, using the |language= section.
  3. Write the English translation of the source title, using the |trans_title= section.
  4. The date you accessed the source, using the |accessdate= section.
  5. The date that the source was published, using the |date= section.

ABU Radio Song Festival 2014

  • The dates for this competition have been confirmed as being on 23 May 2014, a couple of weeks after the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 grand final. Please be on the look out for news reports regarding this festival.
