Proposed mergers at Talk:2023 Israel–Hamas war hostage crisis
[edit]Editors have proposed merging the articles Kidnapping of Hersh Goldberg-Polin and Kidnapping of Noa Argamani into 2023 Israel–Hamas war hostage crisis, and the latter is of interest to this WikiProject.
You are invited join the discussions at Talk:2023 Israel–Hamas war hostage crisis § Proposed merger and Talk:2023 Israel–Hamas war hostage crisis § Proposed merger 2.—Alalch E. 17:42, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
Interest in testing a tool for Breaking News? Seeking feedback
[edit]My team at the foundation, WME, has developed a dashboard that tries to identify new articles related to global "newsworthy" events as they are being written about across Wikipedia language editions at any given moment. You can read more about it here. I'm seeking help to improve the feature.
Here is the direct link to the dashboard. (desktop only).
I'd appreciate if anyone that tries it out can surface any potentially missing templates from across language projects that would help us capture more results. Using the thumbs up and down buttons in the demo to confirm or deny if entries are accurately identified as breaking news, would help me in the long and medium-term in building a better, more accurate tool.
Although Enterprises' focus is not on creating editing tools or gadgets, we hope this can be of use to the community, too.
Thanks! FNavas-WMF (talk)

Historical portal talk tagging
[edit]I just noticed that less than 1% of Portal talk:Current events subpages are tagged with {{WikiProject Current events}}
, e.g. Portal talk:Current events/2023 March 23. Is this on purpose or an omission? I'd like to either remove the existing tags, or add them to the remaining pages so that they are all uniformly tagged. This seems like an omission, but with such a disparity, I figured it best to ask. Pinging some frequent taggers I've seen in this area for inclusion: GeoffreyT2000, Family27390, Isabelle Belato, and WeatherWriter. ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 02:08, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
- Will add WPCE soon per WP:SILENT, since all editors pinged have since edited. ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 00:00, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Tax Day protests
[edit]Not an ongoing event, but hoping some project members might be interested in helping to flesh out Tax Day protests. I should note, there's an ongoing discussion re: page title on the talk page, and the image could use images, a map, and expansion in general. When is an article no longer 'current?'
[edit]I was contemplating learning how to set up an Assessment Table for this WikiProject because I think they're super handy, but Assessment Tables are aggregated by tagging Talk pages with the WikiProject's Importance. For most WikiProjects, this is fine, because once a topic is important to the WikiProject it will most likely stay that way indefinitely. But, the definition of the scope of Current Events has a unique parameter in that articles, once tagged as Current Events, will eventually no longer be valid Current Events, and will instead be taken over by other projects.
So, is it even worthwhile to use the WikiProject's tag on Current Events article Talk pages? Would it be worthwhile to set up an Assessment Table? Could we perhaps establish a protocol whereby the Current Events tag is removed after so much time, say by a timer, or by some sort of review process?
Or does the topic move so quickly as to defeat the purpose of tracking it altogether?
Looking forward to your thoughts. Baltarstar (talk) 18:07, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
