Original – The supermassive black hole at the centre of Messier 87, as observed by the Event Horizon Telescope (a very long baseline interferometer array) at frequencies of 230–450 GHz. The emission ring has a diameter of 42 micro-arcseconds (672 AU physical distance at 16 megaparsec), and the black hole 7.6 micro-arcseconds (121.6 AU).
