The 2024 Queensland mayoral elections was held on 16 March 2024 to elect the mayors of the 77 local government areas in Queensland, Australia. The elections were held as part of the statewide local elections.[1]
14 mayors were elected unopposed.[2]
Background
[edit]Karen Williams, the mayor of Redland, joined the Liberal National Party in 2021.[3]
Scenic Rim mayor Greg Christensen resigned from the LNP on 26 April 2023.[4]
Bob Manning, the mayor of Cairns, announced his retirement as mayor on 17 November 2023.[5] Councillor Terry James was elected as mayor by a vote of fellow councillors on 22 November 2023 to serve the remainder of Manning's term.[6]
