Amar Bangladesh Party (Bengali: আমার বাংলাদেশ পার্টি, lit. 'My Bangladesh Party') is a political party in Bangladesh. The party was established on 2 May 2020 by a reformist splinter group of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.[4][5][1] It's the political wing of Jana Akankhar Bangladesh (lit. 'People's desired Bangladesh'), a political research organisation in Bangladesh.[2]
History
[edit]The party witnessed a major split in October 2023 when several important leaders abruptly left the party and joined the Syed Muhammad Ibrahim-led Bangladesh Kalyan Party after ABP decided not to take part in the 2024 general election.[6]
The party applied for registration before the 2024 election and passed the primaries, but failed to get registration at the end.[7] In view of the judgment and order passed by the High Court on 19 August 2024, the party was registered under the provisions of Chapter 6 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972.[8]
Position
[edit]The party supports proportional representation and calls for reformations in the Bangladeshi electoral system.[9]
The party was criticised to be an alternative to Jamaat, which is controversial for it's role in the Liberation War. However, the party founders claimed that it will be totally independent and distinct from the ideology of Jamaat.[10]
