Billy Chan is a medical simulation expert, educator, and humanitarian who currently serves as the United Nations (UN) Ambassador for the Global Fair Pay Charter and UNITAR. He is the first non-Royal custodian of this prestigious charter, which is supported by both the Commonwealth and the United Nations. Chan is also the Director of the Centre for Medical Education in Simulation at the Faculty of Medicine of Macau University of Science and Technology.

Early Life and Education

Chan was born in Macau and spent his early years in Hong Kong before relocating to Australia. He studied medicine at the University of Western Australia and resided in Perth for many years where he worked as an emergency physician. He later became a prominent figure in medical education and healthcare simulation, and was headhunted to establish the Centre for Medical Education in Simulation at the Faculty of Medicine of Macau University of Science and Technology.[1]

Global Fair Pay Charter and UNITAR

In his role as the UN Ambassador for the Global Fair Pay Charter, Chan advocates for fair and equitable pay practices on a global scale. His leadership in this area is supported by both the Commonwealth and the United Nations. He was appointed to this prestigious role after years of dedication to improving healthcare standards and social equality worldwide. Chan emphasized the importance of this role in an interview, stating, "We aim to create significant opportunities for the Global South by restoring integrity and dignity, ensuring fair pay for hard work, and providing an extra meal for families and children."[2]

Philanthropic Work

Chan is the Founder and Chairman of the Sino-Phil Asia International Peace Awards Foundation, Inc. The Foundation is headquartered in Manila and works to promote peace through action, enhance the quality of life for all humanity, and understand peace with a perspective from Asia. Chan's humanitarian efforts have been recognised for his contributions to peacebuilding across Asia and has received numerous international honours.[3][4]

Personal Life

Chan is a devoted husband and father of two. He is also an active member of the international business community. He serves as the Chairman of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Macau; Vice Chairman of the Medical Research Strategy Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Southern China;[5] and Senior Advisor (Macau) of the Royal Commonwealth Society Hong Kong Branch.

Besides his professional roles, Billy is an avid composer and writer. He is the chief editorial board officer of the Australian Chamber newsletter. He has also been supporting the Come Together charity concert series for the past 13 years in the Greater Bay Area and is a co-founder of this charity organisation.
