This category lists confirmed incidents in which civil airliners have been shot down by military combat aircraft, typically by fighters. Incidents are listed regardless of cause or intent (i.e., factors such as alleged misidentification of the target or navigational errors are immaterial). This category excludes alleged but unconfirmed air-to-air shootdowns (e.g., Transair Sweden Flight 001 and Itavia Flight 870), shootdowns that do not involve commercial airliners, and shootdowns that involve ground-to-air weapons or unknown means.
