Untitled[edit]

I created this category to group together the "garrisons" and "bases" that Gerald Hawting talks about in First Dynasty of Islam (Routledge, 2000), 26 (Fustat), 39 (Merv, Nishapur), 42 (Qayrawan) and so on (everyone knows Basra and Kufa). If you know of others feel free to tag it.

Also: there is nothing specifically Islamic about a forward-base. I assume that Ghassanids and Lakhmids built forts and camps before Islam. So secular bases would qualify as well. --Zimriel (talk) 18:24, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Post-Marwani provincial capitals[edit]

I didn't count Hulwan or Baghdad - these were founded in territories that had been Muslim for decades. I was unsure about Wasit given how al-Hajjaj treated Iraq, like a Syrian-occupied territory. --Zimriel (talk) 18:24, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
