Renaming

[edit]

should this cat be renamed Parks and Plazas in Ponce, Puerto Rico? El Johnson (talk) 03:53, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Then we would have to include Plaza del Mercado de Ponce, Plaza del Caribe, etc. ,,, seems to me. Is that what you would want? Mercy11 (talk) 15:19, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I mean plazas in traditional plaza, Plaza Las Delicias ext. I am asking because I have a few parks and plaza articles I want to do about Mayaguez and I have been wondering what the appropriate category would be. For in Puerto Rico the plaza like Plaza las dDelicias isn't really a park its a plaza and Plaza del Caribe isn't a plaza its a mall with the word plaza in the name. let me know what you think. Saludos El Johnson (talk) 15:49, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so leaving malls and marketplaces out altogether irrespective of their "misnomers", maybe we can have both cats - plazas and parks. Maybe we can even have a subcategory (are all plazas also parks, or are all parks also plazas?) Should we consider plazas only in the traditional sense and thus list, under such cat, only the tradiional central plazas in each municipality? Maybe nowadays central plazas are really just urban parks anyway. Maybe their functions have changed/are changing... What do you think? Mercy11 (talk) 19:13, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well I consider plazas to be a Town square which does not necessarily has to be the central one. For example in Old San Juan alone there are various ones. In Mayagüez I can think of a few other than the main one such as the Plaza De Diego. In Puerto Rico Plazas usually have pavement and might have a few or no greenery. While parks in the other hand are more green and might have some pavement concrete ext. Still I think that their is no need right now to have 2 cats since it could be renamed to [parks and plazas in ______]. Since they both serve a very similar purpose, if not the same. If you have time you might want to take a look at [1], I see that we are not the only ones with this dilemma. But going by that Spanish wiki link I think that in PR I am referring to are "plaza de estilo español". El Johnson (talk) 23:02, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't had any problem with the cat as it exists so far, nor with putting traditional Spanish-style plazas (central or not [thinking here of SJ's Parque de las Palomas, etc)) into the current Parks-of-Ponce category. But if you feel strong about it, let's go ahead and change it to the one you are suggesting. If I read corectly you are suggesting a cat rename to "Parks and Plazas in Ponce", (and etc for the other towns) and then leave in there all the current members, i.e., the old central Las Delicias plaza as well as the newer parks such as Dora Colón Clavell Urban Park, etc. That's fine with me. BTW, thanks for fixing the mess I made in the gallery section of Club Nautico. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 23:28, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK its settled then. I dont think there will be any problems with the current name, its just that I think the other one is more appropriate given the reasons above. I have a few plazas and parks in mayaguez that I am planing on creating I had been thinking of this for a while and since you created this cat I saw it as the perfect moment/place to discus it and see what somebody else thought. oh and no problem about the nautico article. Nice pictures where you in ponce recently?? El Johnson (talk) 00:31, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
