Winner vs recipient

Is there a rule for which to use? Does winner imply a competition such as the Oscars where multiple people are nominated and there is one winner, and recipient where the person receiving the award is just announced? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 18:30, 13 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
