The Château de Jouy-en-Josas is in Jouy-en-Josas, southwest of Paris, in the French department of Yvelines, in the Île-de-France region. It is a partly preserved castle,[1] currently occupied by HEC Paris for its continuing education activities (Executive education) and as a seminar site.[2]
History
[edit]The Château de Jouy was sold in 1834 to the banker James Mallet, husband of Laure Oberkampf. It remained in his family until 1953.[3]
Gardens
[edit]Jouy had regular gardens described by Dezallier d'Argenville, who emphasizes the beauty of the Orangery parterre, worthy of that of royal houses. The site was nevertheless buried at the bottom of a valley, which did not allow for a good view. The Orangery building is still preserved as part of the HEC school which manages the estate, but it is in total ruins according to aerial views.[4]
The castle gardens are currently landscaped “in the English style”.[5]
