Chromakopia is the upcoming seventh studio album by American rapper Tyler, the Creator.[1] The album is set to be released on October 28, 2024.[2][3]

Background

[edit]

On October 16, 2024, Tyler released a teaser on Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter titled "St. Chroma", which is expected to be the first song of the record, due to the post on Instagram with the caption “1. st chroma”. At the end of the video, the album's name, Chromakopia, is revealed. A day later, on October 17, Tyler revealed the cover art for the album and its expected release date.[2]

On October 21, Tyler released another teaser titled "NOID", the lead single for the album, which is expected to be the third song of the record, due to the Instagram post caption for this song being "3. NOID"

The album is likely based on the character Chroma the Great from The Phantom Tollbooth, a conductor whose orchestra creates the colors of the world.[4] The teaser video is at first black and white as he is directing people into a shipping container. He then blows it up remotely via button, adding color to the video.

Teasers

[edit]

The first teaser is speculated to be the music video for "St. Chroma”, although this is not confirmed. The video has a sepia filter for the majority of the video. It depicts a masked Tyler leading a line of 10 men, where he steps out of the line and points the men to go inside a green shipping container with the Chromakopia logo on the front. When all the men are inside, Tyler presses a button and detonates the container, and the sepia filter disappears.[5] At the end of the teaser, it reveals a green background, with the name of the album, Chromakopia in its respective font.

The second teaser is the music video for "Noid", the lead single for the album, and the third song of the record. It borrows the same sepia filter from "St. Chroma" as well as the same masked character that Tyler seems to playing for this album. In the video, Tyler runs through crowds of people who become erratic towards him, bearing unsettling grins. A crazed woman runs towards Tyler, moving violently, taking pictures and waving a gun around. There are rapid cuts between Tyler dancing in a room with flashing lights, watching as a car follows him while he is driving and peeking through a curtain, terrified. At the end of the video, Tyler runs around an empty lot before falling to his knees and screaming. The song's lyrics talk about Tyler's fear and annoyance of people trying to find out things about his personal life, such as the paparazzi or interviewers. In SORRY NOT SORRY Tyler talks about the same idea.

Marketing

[edit]

Marketing for Chromakopia has been spotted around the state of Texas as two large Kenworth W900L green trucks with green shipping containers on the back with the Chromakopia logo, identical to the shipping container featured in the "St. Chroma" music video. The trucks are known as the “Chromakopia Trucking Company”[6]. The trucks starting point was in the city of Tyler, Texas, parked near the Tyler Public Library.[7] The two trucks then departed the location, and drove in opposite directions, one truck going towards Houston and one truck going towards Dallas. In location, the Houston truck has been spotted parked near the Eclectic Menagerie Park[8] and the Dallas truck has been spotted near the intersection between San Jacinto and Leonard.[9] The Chromakopia website, at the time of writing, has shown that the Dallas truck’s next location will be Roswell, NM and the Houston truck’s next location will be Atlanta, GA.
