From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aditya Nagrath (born June 9, 1980) is an American mathematician, scientist, software engineer, entrepreneur, and author. He is best known for founding “Elephant Learning Mathematics Academy”[1] and for his contributions to educational technology and mathematics education.[1][2]

Early life and education

[edit]

Nagrath was born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado and graduated from East High School (District 60) in 1998.[3] He attended the University of Denver, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics in 2001.[3] Nagrath also minored in Philosophy. He continued his education at the University of Denver.[2][3][4]

Career

[edit]

Early Career

[edit]

Dr. Nagrath began his career in software engineering.[4][5] He worked for various companies such as Lucent Technologies and Dish Network. He has worked on various high-profile projects, including contributions to iOS and Android applications, web technologies, set top box systems, cable systems, and technology contributing to atomic clocks and time keeping[4][5]. His notable collaborations include work for major companies such as DISH Network, Palm, and Lucent Technologies.[2][4][5][6]

Elephant Head Software

[edit]

In 2009, while in Ukraine, Dr. Nagrath founded Elephant Head Software, a contract software engineering firm that developed custom software. Notable clients included Pearson, Titan, and Verizon. The company was recognized for its innovation with the JD Edwards award in 2015.[1][7][8]

Over the course of 7 years[citation needed], Elephant Head Software created over 50 software products with contributions to Internet of Things and television products.[1][7][8]

Elephant Learning

[edit]

In 2016, Nagrath established Elephant Learning Mathematics Academy[1][7], a company with a mission of empowering children with mathematics. The academy aims to provide an accelerated learning system that helps students grasp years of mathematics within a few months through a program that requires just 10 minutes of study per day, three days a week.[1][7][9]  Elephant Learning has been noted for its impact, having taught over 210,000 years of mathematics to more than 175,000 students globally.[5][7][9]

A research report of over 57,0000 students was released by the company and authored by Dr. Nagrath show that students within the system had learned an average of 1.67 years of mathematics over the course of 13 weeks with average usage of just under 40 minutes per week.[citation needed]

Treating Mathematics Anxiety

[edit]

In 2024, Nagrath authored Treating Mathematics Anxiety: Inclusive Strategies for Working with Students Exhibiting Mathematics Anxiety. [2]The book offers insights into the causes of mathematics anxiety and presents strategies for educators and parents to support affected students. It followed his earlier work, "Rethinking Math Learning," which also achieved Amazon Best Seller status.[10][11][9][12]

Achievements

[edit]
  • Elephant Head Software: Recognized with the JD Edwards award for innovation in 2015.[13][9]
  • Elephant Learning: Won the Education 2.0 Award for the Most Effective Mathematics Platform in 2020.[13][9]
  • Books: Nagrath's books, "Rethinking Math Learning" and "Treating Mathematics Anxiety," have been influential in the field of education.[13][10][9][14]

Charitable Contributions

[edit]

Dr. Nagrath founded the Richard Ball Scholarly Lecture series at the University of Denver through an Endowment in order to help facilitate graduate student transition from coursework to research.[11][13] It honors emeritus professor and researcher Richard Ball, a long-term faculty member and chair of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Denver. [13][11][14]
