Overview

[edit]

Peacock Media is The American University of Paris’s student-run media coalition with content in 4 major platforms: online news (The Plume) and magazine (Peacock Magazine), video (Peacock Play), podcasting, and radio (AUP Radio).

"Peacock Media is an AUP student-led organization and encompasses The Plume, Peacock Magazine, Peacock Play and AUP Radio. We are the epicenter of AUP’s multicultural urban campus, dedicated to producing high-quality content that connects students, faculty, alumni, and the globe."[1]

Peacock Magazine was launched in 2011 by "Then-student Ford Leland ’13[...]with a guerilla marketing campaign during the University’s Thanksgiving dinner, thus changing the face of AUP Student Media in the coming decade."[2] This led to the creation of the other three practicums as well. Topics such as politics, music, fashion, and Parisian culture are just a few examples of what Peacock covers. Each practicum of Peacock is guided by both a student editor-in-chief and a faculty advisor.

The writers and contributors for Peacock Media are mainly staff writers and contributors in the practicum classes at AUP, but Freelance contributors from outside of the classes are also accepted and published. Contributors to Peacock Media report in English; content is produced for those both in and out of the AUP community. All of Peacock’s online and magazine articles, radio and podcast shows, and broadcast videos are completely original; most of the photography is also completely original.

Print Media The first issue of Peacock Magazine was released in the Fall of 2011; 26 issues were released as of the Fall of 2024. Issues are published semesterly; the magazine’s theme and stories are completely designed and created by AUP students. Peacock magazine provides AUP students with the opportunity to gain real-world experience in planning, writing, formatting, designing, editing, printing, and administrating for a magazine. “Made up of a diverse staff, Peacock Magazine adds a global voice and perspective to the print media world in Paris and beyond.”

Digital Media Peacock Plume is AUP’s online news magazine that covers a wide array of current events both in and around AUP, as well as around the world; writers for the Plume report on various topics ranging from news and politics to art and fashion. Content for the Plume is published several times per week.

Broadcast Media Peacock Play is Peacock’s video journalism platform that produces and publishes content several times per week on YouTube. AUP Radio is Peacock’s Podcast and Radio platform that publishes content on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

The Board The student-led Executive Board is made up of the chief editors from each practicum, as well as their deputy editors, art and photo directors, a faculty advisor, a communications editor, and a managing board editor.
