Andrew Kwabena Asamoah (born 18 December 1945) is a Ghanaian entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the founder and executive chairman of A&C Development Limited, known for the A&C Mall in Ghana.[1] He is also a member of the board of trustees for the Otumfuor Osei Tutu II Foundation, which implements social initiatives in education, healthcare, water, sanitation, and other projects.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Asamoah was born on December 18, 1945, in Ghana. He obtained his G.C.E "O" Levels from the Royal Society of Arts in 1964, and a Certificate in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin (USA) in 1970. He also holds diplomas from the School of Journalism and Television (UK) and became an associate of the Institute of Commerce (UK) in 1972. He earned a Law degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, in 1983, and became a Barrister at Law in 1984. In 2021, he received a doctorate in Business Administration for Leadership and Innovation from the Swiss School of Business and Management in Geneva, Switzerland.[3]

Asamoah founded A&C Development Co. Ltd in 2004 and has served as its chairman. He has also been involved with the Ghana National Pension Implementation Committee and the Ghana Commercial Property Owners Association. He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Council of Indigenous Business Association Pension Scheme and the President of the Ghana Association of Former International Civil Servants.[4]

World Health Organization[edit]

From 1970 to 1999, Asamoah held various positions with the World Health Organization (WHO), including Information Analyst, Administrative Officer, and Chief of Personnel Administration and Staff Support Services. He worked in WHO's Regional Office for Africa in Congo and at WHO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.[5]

Philanthropy[edit]

Asamoah is active in the Otumfuor Osei Tutu II Foundation, contributing to initiatives in education, healthcare, water, and sanitation.[6]

Honors and recognition[edit]

Asamoah has received several awards, including the Certificate of Induction to the Catholic Lawyers' Guild of Ghana (2004), the Planters of the Seed Award (2005), and the National Merit Award as Officer of the Order of the Volta (2008). He was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year, West Africa (2014), received the Maverick Business Academy Award (2021), the GUBA Pioneer Award (2023), and was bestowed the title of Honorary Professor by the Academic Union of Oxford (2023).[7][8]

Personal life[edit]

Asamoah is fluent in English, French, and Akan. He is married with four children.[9]

Asamoah is a member of various professional societies, including the Ghana Bar Association, Nigerian Bar Association, American Society of International Law, British Institute of Comparative Law, Law Society of Nigeria, Society of International Law (Nigeria), Institute of Management Sciences (USA), Royal Economic Society (UK), Institute of Public Relations (UK), Institute of Commerce (UK), and the Royal Society of Arts (UK).[10]
